Environmental Defence, a leading Canadian environmental advocacy organization, is urging transit riders, advocates, and allies to push for better transit funding during Canada Transit Action Week from Oct. 15-20.
The main objectives of the activities include:
- Making the new Canada Public Transit Fund available sooner,
- Allowing it to be used for operating expenses to keep buses, trains, and streetcars running smoothly, not just buying buses, and
- Expanding the Fund to help meet transit needs across the country.
Activities are planned across the country, including a Fix the TTC rally in Toronto on Oct. 17. There are also digital actions that will take place online.
The week will be capped by a Transit for Tomorrow summit in Ottawa Oct. 28, where transit supporters from across Canada will gather to form alliances and discuss strategy.
